Prior to forming Rodriguez & Tran, LLP Derek was a solo practitioner in Orange County. Right out of law school, Derek worked for one of California's most prominent employment law firm handling complex law and motion. At Rodriguez & Tran, he is now responsible for all aspects of a case. From client retention to trial, Derek is involved 100%.
Derek handles all employment matters including: disability discrimination, sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, wage and hour claims, age discrimination and whistleblowing cases.
Additionally, Derek is responsible for the Personal Injury cases for the firm. He has handled cases from bicyclist auto crashes to wrongful deaths.Professional Affiliations & Contribution:
Derek is an active leader and member of the Plaintiff’s bar community. He sits on the Board of Governors for the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) and serves as the New Lawyers Vice Chair. He was awarded the 2018 CAALA Presidential Award for his outstanding contribution to the organization.
Derek is proud to serve as a Board Member for the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC). It is his honor to advance CAOC’s goals and mission to protect California consumers. He was awarded CAOC Presidential Award of Merit in 2019.
In 2017, Derek graduated from the CAALA’s Plaintiff Trial Academy. In 2019, Derek graduated from the CAOC’s Leadership Academy.
Derek is also a proud member of the following organizations: American Association for Justice, the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association and the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Charities.
Derek was named a 2018 Super Lawyer Rising Star.
Derek has spoken at CAALA’s Annual Convention in Las Vegas and at CAOC’s Annual Convention in San Francisco.Notable Wins:
In 2018, he was part of the trial team that secured a $2.2 million-dollar verdict on a sexual harassment case against a national defendant.

Derek is a decorated Veteran and served during the 2003 Iraqi Conflict. He understands the complexities of employment military anti-discrimination and leave laws. Derek continues to support veteran programs through volunteering and providing pro-bono legal services.Education & Background:
Derek has a Bachelor of Science in Economics-Finance degree from Bentley University and Juris Doctorate from Glendale University College of Law.
While attending law school, Derek worked full time as an insurance broker and consulted for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Prior to law school, Derek served as a Policy Analyst for the Mayor of Angeles from 2004-2005. Derek is a native Californian; raised in Los Angeles County and now living in Orange County.
